Why LED Light Therapy Needs To Be Your Winter Skin Go-To

We won’t talk about treatments (or offer them at MO+) until we absolutely know they return results… and from what we have seen, what we are about to introduce you to returns results. Welcome to MO+ LED Light Therapy - a non invasive light therapy treatment made for soothing and revitalising your Winter skin woes. While light therapy has been around for decades, it has certainly found a cult like following in the world of beauty, and more specifically skincare, in recent years.

While 30 minutes of light therapy is enough to take you to a much calmer, more revitalised place, we are loving this new MO+ offering both by itself, and in conjunction with other signature treatments, including massage and acupuncture, at our Bondi Junction wellness clinic.

So what is LED Light Therapy?
LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. The light itself emits therapeutic wavelengths (or colours) of light energy. At the correct wavelength, the LED light works on the dermis layer of the skin. From here, the cells of our skin will convert that light energy into ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which works to support the cells in our face (in fact all over our body) to do their job correctly.

We recently came across a great analogy: high intensity LED used correctly and with the right wavelengths has the same biostimulatory effects on human tissue that plants get from chlorophyll when used to convert sunlight into plant tissue.

Light therapy was, once upon a time, only used to quicken up the pace on the healing of wounds and post surgery scars. The wonderful impacts on skin rejuvenation were something of an exciting side discovery (and weren’t we glad they did discover it!).

So what is it good for? Absolutely everything!
Whether it’s reducing pain (both, muscular and arthritic), targeting the signs of ageing (think: fine lines or deeper wrinkles) or assisting in eliminating a skin breakout, this holistic approach to wellness will have you zen-ing out for the duration of the treatment, while the post treatment effects will be felt (and seen) directly thereafter.

Working to increase circulation, accelerating tissue repair, killing acne bacteria, decreasing inflammation, improving overall skin tone, texture and clarity, as well as ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness, spasm, and arthritis, the holistic health benefits are many - needless to say, we are big believers in LED Light Therapy.

Which light does what?
At MO+ Bondi Junction we use three key lights within our treatments - red, blue and white light.
Red light is, perhaps, the most common and works to promote circulation, while blue light works to kill bacteria (farewell acne) and white light penetrates the deepest, working to tighten and reduce inflammation.

Let’s talk frequency!
The effects of LED Light Therapy is cumulative - the more frequently you find yourself under the red, blue and white light, the more heightened results you will see in your skin. We recommend stepping up your LED Light Therapy treatments to really kick your skin into gear. Begin with twelve treatments in the first month, and then - as with all beauty and health based treatments - move to a maintenance program. We would recommend one to two times per month.

Our MO+ Led Light Therapy works at a cellular level, and depending on a number of factors - age, environmental factors, previous skin damage - our cells regenerate at different rates and times. On average, the cell turnover rate is 14 days in children, 30 days for adults and 45 days for more mature skin.

You want to give all your skin cells an opportunity to be at the same full battery level in that first month, maintaining and topping up after that initial period. This all year round treatment works to rejuvenate your skin, promoting ongoing skin cell turnover and glowing skin with each treatment.

Need more convincing?
MO+ Founder, Barbara, trialled our LED Light Therapy every day for 31 days, with no other changes to her regular skincare routine, in the lead up to launching in clinic. Barbara’s skincare routine, while considered, is nothing out of the ordinary - an oil based or balm cleanser, followed by a softer milk cleanser as a second cleanse. This is then followed by Vitamin A serum, and a Niacinamide serum three times per week, with the occasional addition of a Vitamin C serum and a deep face scrub once a week. A moisturise tops it all off!

”I have friends who have known me a lifetime and within the last few months, have been asking what I am doing with my skin (and, did I have botox)? Recently too, I have had our MO+ clients kindly comment on how my complexion was looking - which has never happened to me. I’ve always been that person who never had good skin. I suffered from adult acne right up into my mid 30’s and had the scars to prove it. Because I can’t get enough of the outdoors (and the sunshine) and swimming, whether it be in the ocean or a pool, I gave up on ever having good skin days, but now I have happy cells and good skin for the first time… ever!

When I find something I absolutely love with every cell of my body, I can’t help myself. I wanted to share this feeling, of being so comfortable in my skin, with the rest of the world. The Celluma was one of those unexpected and somewhat serendipitous moments in life when you stumble into something that’s like magic (but you know it's not magic, and yet it kind of is) - it really changed how I saw my skin”.
